Acclaimed artist, producer, and filmmaker Until The Ribbon Breaks returns today with his most personal and heartfelt release to date. The new single “YOU” is out now via VERO Music and arrives alongside a moving music video that tells a powerful true story of resilience, creative connection, and the quiet force of art.
With “YOU,” Until The Ribbon Breaks (aka Pete Lawrie Winfield) continues his 2025 output following the critically praised third studio album V I S I T O R. Stripped back and emotionally raw, “YOU” reflects a new depth of vulnerability and clarity in Winfield’s songwriting.
Speaking about the song, Winfield reveals, “‘YOU’ is the most simple song I have ever written. I don’t mean it was the easiest — in fact, it required a level of vulnerability that I often avoid,” Winfield says. “It has taken me a long, long time to realize that behind all the white noise and clutter of my busy mind, there is a lot of peace. I just have to remember to forget myself. My only way to do that? Gratitude. ‘YOU’ is a giant thank you, for many, many things — too many to mention — but they all live under one roof: to be alive. Simple.”
The video for “YOU” is equally powerful — not in its spectacle, but in its humanity. It stars Vishal Kashyap, a young dancer from Madhya Pradesh, India, who connected with Winfield during the COVID-19 lockdown after sharing how Until The Ribbon Breaks’ music gave him the strength to keep pursuing his dream of dance — even when his community and family didn’t understand or support it.
Filmed remotely in collaboration with Until The Ribbon Breaks, the “YOU” video features Vishal dancing with grace and conviction through an abandoned temple, accompanied by free flying birds. It’s a powerful full-circle moment for a young artist who once had no stage, no spotlight, and often not even shoes — only a dream and the will to pursue it.
“YOU” follows the release of Until The Ribbon Breaks‘ lauded third studio album V I S I T O R — a record written during Winfield’s first years of sobriety. V I S I T O R marked a creative reawakening, led by the single “Everything Else but Rain” (featuring Lucius), and collaborations with La Pardo and Homeboy Sandman.
With “YOU,” Winfield takes a more minimalist turn — but the emotional weight is massive. The track and video are a love letter to gratitude, resilience, and the ways art connects us across borders.
