WILSN SHARES THE NEW SINGLE ‘BRAND NEW WORLD’

Gifted with the ability to capture the emotional resonance of vintage soul with a thoroughly modern flair, WILSN is on the cusp of bigger things. She’s already developed a grassroots following, gaining 1.6 million streams at Spotify for her independently released debut EP Don’t Give It Up’.

Born and based in MelbourneWILSN followed that initial success with the standalone singles ‘Over Me’ and ‘Love Me Back’ before releasing her self-titled second EP earlier this year.

Now WILSN shares her new single ‘Brand New World’, which looks set to be her biggest moment so far. Her world class vocal simmers with soul and strength as she delivers an empowering message of positivity to a world wracked with anxiety. “It’s a brand new world,” she sings, her voice akin to Motown for the streaming age, “Take control.”

“This was an opportunity to create a song that is a nod to some of my more traditional soul influences from the late 60’s. I spent a lot of my childhood performing with big bands and orchestras and soul music was one of my first loves”- says WILSN.

Dating back to the start of her career, ‘Brand New World’ is a song with an unusual history. WILSN wrote the song in bed during a writing trip to New York City, tapping away at the miniature keys on a piano app on her phone. Although the song didn’t immediately live up to its potential, WILSN knew that there was something special there – she just needed to find a way to unlock its brilliance.

That moment came years later in her hometown of Melbourne. After expanding the song into a richer, sumptuous arrangement with the addition of a dramatic crescendo of horns, ‘Brand New World’ was ready to take flight.  And in a fortuitous moment, Harman Kardon – creators of beautiful sound and sophisticated design – chose the song as the perfect soundtrack for their Citation advertising campaign. Citation is a stunning line of voice-controlled, multi-room speakers with contemporary sculptural design.

Growing up in a musical family, WILSN can’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t in love with music. She was surrounded by timeless sounds: her father’s record collection was full of classics from Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Her mother would play The Bee Gees and Stevie Wonder in the car, while her older brother introduced her to the blues.

Influenced by such icons, WILSN’s own music started to gain traction with extensive Australian airplay support for her debut single ‘Unmeet You’. She has also supported high profile artists such as the late Charles Bradley, Allen Stone and MegMac.
