YIBBY REVEALS DYNAMIC DEBUT OPUS ‘LOST IN TRANSLATION’

Blazing onto the scene with his debut single last year, Yibby finally releases his keenly anticipated EP ‘Lost In Translation’.

A sonically diverse omnibus, ‘Lost In Translation’showcases Yibby’s unique style and intonation, and shares stories of his coming of age experience whilst drawing comparisons to Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt. Debut single ‘Woah’ opens the EP, with swirling organs and racing lyrics setting a chaotic tone before changing pace into his latest introspective single ‘Talk’. Employing animated lyrics and laidback synths the track culminates in the soulful vocals of Price J, one of two features on the release.

Nostalgic production melds with refreshed elements to bring the groove, mimicking the shifting perspectives on ‘Folk’ which premiered on triple j’s Home & Hosed this week. ‘180′ slows the pace once again and features the jazzy vocals of UK artist Chanel Loren, whilst ‘Brink’ provides a sombre, felicitous ending. Yibby teamed up with production powerhouse Clockwork Odyssey who provided all the sound design on the EP.

Yibby explains his meaning behind the EP, “Dealing with relationships, coming and going, navigating through the industry, the black experience, love and loss, just human things.” He adds “the title has nothing to do with the movie, I’ve never actually seen it ha.”

Yibby’s debut release in late 2018 marked his arrival in the Australian rap scene. FBi Radio added ‘Woah’ immediately and named him their Independent Artist of the Week, whilst tastemakers Off The Clef had‘Woah’ coming in at #73 on their Top 100 Songs of 2018. Sophomore release ‘Talk’ was embraced by SNIFFERS and Best Before and subsequently added to rotation on FBi and SYN Radio and playlisted on Rage.

After the passing of his parents, Yibby was adopted at the age of two with his sister from his home in Ethiopia and brought to Australia. Growing up as an African in Australia, he often comments on the black experience and the world around him.

Fresh from his show-stopping set at this year’s Bad Friday festival, Yibby support the EP with shows around his hometown of Sydney.
