London artist Giora shares ‘LONG LIVE MUSIC’ and announces FREEWAY EP

Multi-faceted artist Giora unveiled their new project FREEWAY (EP) on 1 May, via their label Holypop, along with the evocative focus track ‘LONG LIVE MUSIC’. Giora is a London-based and born singer, songwriter, producer, performer, creative director, and sound artist who has shared stages with the likes of Isabella Lovestory, Varg, Babynymph, Elisabeth Elektra, Puce Mary, Kelora, and Felix Lee, while they’ve also received acclaim from tastemaker publications NOTION, CLASH Magazine, and Wonderland Magazine. Giora has enthralled audiences at CREEPY TEEPEE Festival in the Czech Republicas well as KWIA in Berlin and Bike Jesus nightclub in Prague. Additionally, Giora has showcased their awe-inspiring take on experimental pop music all over London at venues such as Gossamer FogSpanners, The Divine and The Glory, while they were commissioned to craft sound installations which went on exhibition at Rich Mix and Stanley Arts in London. Giora also runs their own label Holypop, along with their live music event of the same name, which spotlights artists from the UK and European queer experimental scenes.

Giora’s artistic journey started as a child growing up in North London in the UK, when they decided to study classical piano, voice, and music theory. As a teenager, they ventured into writing and performing their own tracks, joining a band in their teens. When Giora lived and worked in New York, they enrolled in orchestral composition classes at Juilliard, which subsequently provided a solid foundation to teach themselves electronic music production, which eventually led to their debut release in 2020. Giora‘scritically acclaimed debut album, It’s So Quiet But I Hear You, which was released in 2023, was championed by tastemaker publication CLASH MagazineGiora‘s groundbreaking take on experimental pop music merges evocative melodies and thought-provoking lyricism with bold, innovative sound design.

FREEWAY, the 6-track EP dives into poignant themes such as existentialism, liberation, personal power, and truth. The EP beautifully glides between various shades of experimental pop music and will entice fans of Depeche ModeSOPHIE, and Charli XCX, while it serves as one of Giora’s most honest and authentic offerings to date. FREEWAY was produced and mixed by Giora and Czech producer Oliver Torr (Sunnbrella, Palmistry, and Evita Manji), while it was mastered by Canadian film and video game composer Zac Tiessen

The EP opens on a fun, playful note with the project’s title track, which is characterised by syncopated drum patterns, psychedelic synths, and a mouth-watering bassline, creating a fierce foundation for the rest of the tracks to unfold. ‘EARTHQUAKE’ follows, which is a potent proclamation of self-assurance and self-acceptance by Giora. The track unfurls like an emotional rollercoaster, holding the listener in a chokehold from beginning to end with its rave-like synths and stadium-sized sound design. ‘POWER CANDY’ seesGiora take off their armour, and highlights Giora’s vulnerable, more sensitive side. Driven by Giora’siconic vocals and moving lyrics, the track is underscored by a kaleidoscope of striking synths, a breakbeat-influenced chorus, and a brooding electric guitar motif. ‘GOD’S GIFT’ showcases a stripped-down, minimal side of Giora’s artistry from the sound design to the vocals, emphasising their incredible dynamism. The EP’s focus track, ‘LONG LIVE MUSIC’, is a powerful statement about Giora’s personal journey to freedom through music. The track has a distinct synth-pop feel to it, with 80s-inspired synths, commanding drums, and a hypnotic melody. The EP concludes on a high-octane note with ‘IN THE END’, an unapologetic anthem about their experience of not conforming to the binary, which features luscious textures of breaks, experimental electronica, and trance.

Giora told us, “This EP is a statement piece about freedom, truth and love. The freeway is a promise of openness, travel, connection. It is an expression of human nature. Freedom is yours to build not at the expense of anyone or anything else. The free way is acceptance, transformation and the ability to be exactly as you please…staying real and holding your own power and doing it with love.”
