Hector Gachan is a Bosnian-Australian musician currently based in Edinburgh. His debut LP “Untitled ’91” released in the winter of 2017 cultivated a cult following from around the world. Since then he has gradually worked on his sophomore LP “Care 2 Share”. The eponymous track and second single of this album is out now via Nice Guys.
“Care 2 Share” is a clever mix of synthesizers and guitar riffs that create a mellow indie-pop ballad. The main guitar riff is something that Hector had originally written 10 years ago after first hearing legendary tracks like “Footsteps in the Dark” by The Isley Brothers and “Hung Up On My Baby” by Isaac Hayes.
Following the positive feedback and public appraisals from “Untitled ’91” (2017) including over 10 million streams and support from KCRW, France Inter, Rolling Stone, Noiseyand many more, Hector spent the four last years honing his craft and writing new material. Still operating in the intimacy of his home studio, the 11 songs that comprise “Care 2 Share” are all infused with soft melodies, identity questions and cultural crossroads.
The record is inspired by the groove of Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson, the romantic undertones of Jorge Ben and the lo-fi aesthetics of artists like LA Priest. Throughout the entire album, he gravitates towards writing music that can be interpreted in multiple ways; finding his sweet spot when composing something that doesn’t necessarily come across as sad or happy – rather something that is nuanced and open for interpretation. His upbringing between Eastern Europe and Australia can be felt throughout the his intimate lyrics. He offers the explanation of being “no land’s man, in no man’s land” to attempt to identify his cultural roots.
“Overall I want my music to have a positive influence on others. If it can serve as a soundtrack to someone else’s life, particularly someone discovering their own unique potential or courage then that’s great. I genuinely believe that displaying courage and facing fear is what fuels my inspiration. I try my best to always find that challenge no matter where I’m at in life, it keeps me on my toes.” – Hector Gachan
