Lizzie Bradley
With her Nina Simone style voice, Lizzie Bradley brings us the smooth, jazzy electronica release Light. Based in London, Lizzie creates a rich, textured palette of electronic soundscapes with distinct melodies. In addition to her production skills, her mellow voice creates a very breezy aural delight. The title track sets the atmosphere with a delicate piano melody and billowy singing. Also laced with eerie voice effects and rain, “Dive Into Me” sounds like an old 50s torch song updated to the new century.
Her vocal delivery on “Just For You” seems like the dreamy, precise singing of Julee Cruise. “I Need It” takes an odd turn, giving us a minimalist experience that works as an experimental piece. Not unlike that song, “Higher” keeps a dark, slow rhythm while vocals soar over the sparse instrumentation. Finally, “One More Dance”, though lyrically dark, brightens up the album with its brisk pace and light percussion. Overall, this is an entertaining, provocative collection of songs.
