Thomas Brothers

This Auckland, New Zealand band combines a standard setup of piano, bass, drum and guitar to produce some very catchy pop tunes that’s not afraid to blend in some heavy guitar solos on occasion.  Hearkening to their influences Coldplay and Muse, the songs on their self-titled debut have an epic feel while the lyrics consider various aspects of love, loss and relationships.  Many of the tracks build from simple melodies to much grander finishes, a la Imagine Dragons.  The Thomas Brothers are engaging and fun, even when moving into deeper territory with ‘What You Do to Me’, a darker side of their sound.

But their videos are even more fun.  These playful, high-spirited romps reminds one of the Beatles in their ‘Help!’ days.  Lots of frantic activity with goofy,over-the-top acting make for some unpretentious, light-hearted viewing.  Especially recommended is the song ‘I Need To Get Home‘, a synth-laden romp that really grooves.  With a second album due later this year, we have lots to look forward to with this talented band.
